Inoculating a commercial beer

A friend and I have come to own a large quantity of one of the local brewer's pumpkin ales. They are in bottles. We want to decant/dump them back to a glass carboy and inoculate with a flemish strain of yeast.

1. Has anyone ever done anything like this?
2. Would it work?
3. Any suggestions or tips?
